Set Edge Beta as the default browser with Intune

To set Microsoft Edge as the default browser in Windows 10, you need to encode the following XML to Base64 – this can be done online on various encoders.

<?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”UTF-8″?>
<DefaultAssociations>
<Association ApplicationName=”Microsoft Edge Beta” ProgId=”MSEdgeBHTML” Identifier=”.html”/>
<Association ApplicationName=”Microsoft Edge Beta” ProgId=”MSEdgeBHTML” Identifier=”http”/>
<Association ApplicationName=”Microsoft Edge Beta” ProgId=”MSEdgeBHTML” Identifier=”https”/>
</DefaultAssociations>

When you have a Base64 value you can create an Intune profile by following this guide:

  • Start Microsoft 365 Device Management portal
  • Go to Device Configuration -> Profiles -> Add
  • Enter a name for the profile etc “Edge Beta as default Browser”
  • Select “Windows 10 and later” as Platform and “Custom” under Profile type
  • Clik Settings -> Add

Enter the following values:

  • Name: “Set Default apps”
  • Description: “Edge Beta”
  • OMA-URI: “./Vendor/MSFT/Policy/Config/ApplicationDefaults/DefaultAssociationsConfiguration”
  • Data type: “String”
  • Value: ‘the Base64 value you created earlier’

Now you can deploy the profile to the users and let them use Edge Beta as the default browser on Windows 10 devices.
